What Stress Does to Your Body

Having stress is a normal part of living. The events that you go through, and the things that you put your body through add stress to your body and mind. Short term Stress can be a positive thing for your body, but the long term stress is what you have to watch out for. If you stress all the time, without relief in between your challenges, can cause you to build tension. If this tension is built up you can get frequent headaches, upset stomach, problems sleeping, and chest pains.

Many people who stress decide to use alcohol and nicotine as a reliever, but this can actually make things worse. These substances cause more problems, and don’t help you out in the long run. This long term stress will make it harder to improve your health, and you may never stop your smoking addiction like you’ve always wanted to. Long term stress also causes many households to lose more money annually.

If you just stress a little, this can be good for your body. Like during your “fight or flight” response you will get that adrenaline rush. Your liver will produce more blood sugar which gives you a big boost of energy. Too much all the time is not good for your body though, especially if you are at risk of diabetes. Also short term stress can make your immunity system stronger, but too much can leave you more susceptible to infection. So, overall, it is ok to have a little stress in your life, but if you stress non-stop this can cause health issues. Don’t be afraid to take a vacation for your health when your life gets too hectic!
