Seven Key Points for your Fitness Routine part 2
by Jack Kenefick on March 3, 2010
Are you one of those fitness fanatics? There’s a slight chance you are, but there’s a better chance you just think you are. For instance, if you focus on cardio only, you’re burning muscle. Therefore, you don’t have great overall fitness. If you’re into strength training and consuming protein shakes and creatine, you might have gained some strength and water weight, but that doesn’t mean you’re in great shape. Someone who is truly into fitness is someone who dedicates time to every aspect of working out. This includes stretching, cardio, core work, strength training, and most importantly, proper diet.
To stress that last point, diet should be looked at as the backbone of your diet. If you’re a hardgainer and find it impossible to put on weight, you’re just not eating correctly. The same goes for those of you looking to lose weight. There are many basic, fitness-based diet plans available online.
Every workout should being with stretching. This will elongate your muscles and help prevent injury. For cardio, don’t just run on the treadmill or ride the bike every day. Each exercise hits different muscle groups. If you run on the treadmill one day, swim laps the next day. Then ride a bike, or kayak on a lake. Be creative. Not only does this improve your overall fitness, but it keeps your workouts interesting.
There are dozens of core workouts available. Self-resistance will often be your best approach. Don’t waste time or money on a product that can wrap around your waist and supposedly give you six-pack abs while you watch tv. Sorry, but it doesn’t work that way. And for weight training, focus mostly on pyramiding, but to keep workouts fresh, also mix in supersets and dropsets.
Follow the information above to get in the best overall shape of your life.
