Fitness and exercise has been a common topic of discussion for decades. Because of this, many fitness myths have been developed that may not be scientifically accurate. Despite the advancements in knowledge of fitness, several fitness myths still exist.
The first fitness myth is that if you do not have the time for a long workout, then it is not even worth going to the gym. This myth stems from the thought that you need to keep your heart rate up for an extended period of time to lose weight. This simply isn’t true. High interval training exercise programs have been shown to be a very effective way to lose weight. A high interval exercise program can be completed without spending more than 20 to 30 minutes exercising.
The second fitness myth is that a good workout will always leave you sore. This is a myth as it has been shown that being sore can often be counter-productive as it leaves small tears in your muscles. While soreness may show that your muscles were well worked, it may also show that they were over-worked, not properly stretched, or that you used the wrong form. By stretching and using proper form, you could avoid excessive soreness.
The third myth is that starving yourself will help you lose weight. This myth has been shown to be inaccurate as starving yourself will actually slow your metabolism. The best diet to follow to lose weight would be to eat small and nutritious meals throughout the day.
