Flat feet is a term loosely used to describe a condition in which a human has little to no arches in their feet. While most people who have flat feet received them through genetics, others could have developed them by not wearing proper soles. Having flat feet can be detrimental to your ability to run or participate in some exercise programs. Luckily, there are several flat feet exercises that can be incorporated into an exercise program which will help improve the arches in your feet.

One exercise to improve the arches in your feet is to attempt to pick up objects with your feet. A good way to perform this exercise is to sit on a chair, place some marbles on the floor, and attempt to pick them up. After picking them up, try to hold them long enough as to where you can move them and drop them in a bucket. By performing this exercise with both feet, you will exercise the muscles in the arch of your foot which adds the “spring” to your step.

Another exercise to improve the arches in your feet is to squeeze your toes closed. While standing straight, attempt to close every one of your toes at the same time. By doing this, and squeezing hard, you will begin to strain the arches of your feet. Attempt to squeeze for at least 30 second per repetition, and perform at least 5 repetitions per foot each day. After 15 to 20 seconds you should begin to feel your muscles get tired or sore.
