If you have ever tried to lose weight, you are aware of the “plateau”. Quite a nasty thing it is, it just leaves us wondering why?

The plateau is when you just can’t seem to lose weight anymore. You have been dieting and everything is going great, you are losing slowly but surely. Then all of a sudden, no weight loss, week after week. We do the same thing we have always done, and it was working, but now no weight loss. It can be very discouraging. But the key is to make it change.

The body adapts to our routine very easily and sometimes it gets stuck and will not respond. This is when we reach our plateau. We can change things by:

Changing our calorie intake, instead of 1200 calories one day, make it 1500 and the next day 1800. Just switch calories around slightly.

It’s time to start strength training. If you are already doing it, then switch things around. Shock the system a little bit.

Change the exercise regimen. If you run 5 times a week and bike 4 times a week, maybe add in swimming a few times and skip the run. Just change the routine. The body needs a shake-up.

Change you eating habits to five smaller meals a day rather than the regular three.

These things will eventually work, and one day you will get on that scale and instead of the usual two pounds a week, you will have lost five pounds in that week. Don’t get discouraged and good luck.
