Challenging workouts to keep you motivated
by Jack Kenefick on May 29, 2010
Staying motivated while working out is one of the most challenging things about having an exercise program. Workouts can become boring and routine, and quickly lose their appeal, so it’s important to make your work outs interesting. One of the best ways to meet this challenge is by mixing up the workout routine.
Instead of every day doing the same thing over and over, never have the same exercise program two days in a row. Besides giving different body muscles a rest, diverse exercise routines will help keep you motivated.
If you are jogging, walking, or riding a bike, take different routes each day to break up the monotony. Listen to music or a book on CD to make the time fly.
If you are riding a stationary bike or walking on a treadmill, put a television in front of you and watch some of your favorite movies. Occasionally use a work out DVD. Mix it up with one day of yoga, another day Pilates, and even some kick boxing. Workout DVDs are excellent for endurance training.
In your different work out routines, gradually start adding weights to your arms and legs. The added weight will not only help to build muscle and strength, but also challenge you to work harder. Once you begin seeing results it will motivate you even more.
The biggest reason workout routines are abandoned is boredom. Keep your exercise workouts interesting and you will realize how much you look forward to them and you won’t be filled with dread.
