  1. 5 Great Abdominal Exercises That Can Be Done At Home

5 Great Abdominal Exercises That Can Be Done At Home

Crunches on the floor – lying on your back on the floor, bring your knees up to your chest, put your hands behind your head and crunch your abdominals so that you are touching your elbows to your knees.  This works your upper abdominals. Click Here to Watch How

  2. Planks – face down on the floor, resting on your elbows and the toes of your feet while keeping your body perfectly straight like a board and holding that position for either 30 seconds or 60 seconds.  If you can’t hold it for 60 seconds, slowly work your way up to that.  This works your entire core. 3. Half-Crunches – sitting upright on your butt on the floor, knees bent and feet flat on the floor.  Sit up and hold your arms out in front of you while leaning back half way (between sitting upright and lying on the floor) and then sit up completely, trying to touch your chest to your knees.  Go down half way and then up again 30 times.  This will work your lower back and upper abdominals.
  4. Leg Extensions on the Floor – Sitting on the floor, lying back resting on your elbows.  Bring your knees up to your chest and kick out one leg at a time, back and forth, left leg and right leg.  This works the top of the thighs, the lower abdominals and the lower back.
  5. Seated Broomstick Twists – sitting on a chair with a broomstick resting on your shoulders behind your neck.  Have both hands on the broomstick and twist your torso back and forth, left and right.  Do this 30 times in each direction.  This will work your obliques and waistline. My Favorite Places To Go For a Run in Newport Beach

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Crystal Cove TrailRunning can be one of the most rewarding, yet most boring exercises there is. One way to keep myself from getting bored is by changing up the scenery. I enjoy changing the places I run, instead of running the same routes all the time. Not only does it keep me interested, it allows me to escape from some of the monotonous tasks of daily life, and allows me to get some fresh air while checking out some wildlife. Below I have shared some of my favorite route to run in the Newport Beach Area.

One of my favorite places to go for a run, is the Back Bay in Newport Beach.  It has excellent scenery, a ton of wildlife and the ocean breeze makes the temperature cool enough to go for a long run without getting too hot.

My second favorite place to go running is on the Bonita Canyon trail in Newport Beach.  Again, tons of scenery and an excellent workout with the hills.  The trails are designed for running and it is very peaceful and quiet.  This is one of my favorite places to run when I want to clear the cobwebs out of my head and get away from everything – Awesome place to run!

My third favorite place to go running is on the Crystal Cove trail over in the Newport Coast.  There is no better view of the Pacific Ocean while running.  I love running along this trail late in the day when the sun is setting. It’s the most peaceful run.  Plus it is close to my home and is a great way to get in a workout without having to drive far away.

What are some of  your Favorite Places to run in Newport Beach? Post a comment below with your personal favorites!

Cheers

-Jack

What challenges are there to being a personal trainer?

Friday, December 9th, 2011

Balanced Life FitnessOne of the biggest challenges to being a personal trainer is working with people who don’t want the results they are looking for as badly as the trainer does.  When someone comes to me with a serious problem – they need to lose a lot of weight, get their cholesterol and blood pressure under control or whatever and they don’t stick to the program, it can be very frustrating and discouraging.

So many people are under a tremendous amount of stress in their daily lives and often times, putting oneself last becomes the norm.  This often means that people lose sight of what they are working for and can easily  lose motivation.  This is where having a trainer becomes so important.  But it can be very difficult to fight against a client’s hectic work schedule or financial limitations that could sabotage their fitness program and there inevitably is a level of attrition.  Losing a client to uncontrollable circumstances before they have accomplished their goal is probably the most challenging part of being a personal trainer.
