All of us love eating out and to each one’s dismay most of us are on a diet. Often eating out sounds is not a comforting idea if you are on a diet. The first thing that comes to your mind is the quantity as you will feel the portions served are definitely more than what you tend to eat at home. Another point is the tempting menu that will make you send your diet out the back door. There is no need panic, a few pointers to be followed when eating out will help you keep your diet pattern intact.
1. Study the menu thoroughly and see what the healthiest choices are. If it is possible to access a copy of the menu online or have a copy before your reach the restaurant then go through it and make your choices in advance, this will stop you from being tempted by other items.
2. Try to order your main meal from the appetizer menu. Generally appetizers are served in reasonable quantities and may be if you order a salad as well you will be eating a fiber-rich platter with vegetables. Soup is a great option as it is very filling, but be sure to cut down on the cream.
3. When choosing meat avoid fried stuff. Go for chicken that is steamed, poached, roasted, boiled, grilled or baked. Ordering skinless chicken is a good idea. It is best to choose white meat over dark ones, this way your calorie intake is less.
4. Some people like pasta and it is important to know that when you overeat pasta it adds an inch to your waistline as well. So, eat sensibly when it comes to pasta since you will be adding a lot of carbs.
5. We already spoke of quantity and buffets don’t help you in this area at all. When you look at the endless amount of food served with so many different menus quantity control flies out the window. Hence, if you are planning to eat at a buffet for dinner, then it is a good idea to eat small and healthy snacks during the afternoon and you will not be so famished for the dinner buffet.
These are few things to keep in mind while on a diet. It is not necessary to give up eating out when you are on a diet; all you have to do is watch what you eat and how much you eat.
